The Student Visa permits face-to-face, virtual, or distance learning in various fields, including art, trade, and higher education, as well as student internships and academic exchanges between institutions. Passport holders from countries exempt from visa requirements are not required to obtain this visa if their stay in Colombia does not exceed 180 days.

What are the Requirements for Applying for the Student Visa?

The requirements for applying for a student visa, as outlined in the resolution, are listed below. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) may request additional documents beyond those listed.

General
Requirements

Passport

Provide a valid passport with blank pages and at least 6 months of validity.

Digital Photo

One digital photo measuring 3 x 4 cm with a white background and no accessories is required. Printed physical photos are not accepted.

Bank Statements (6)

The last 6 months of bank statements must show over 10 SMMLV (approximately USD 3,250 per month) from the foreigner and/or host.

Tourism Extension or Previous Visa

Provide a copy of your most recent entry stamp, tourist extension, or previous visa. Get a quote here.

Motivation Letter (Student)

Motivation letter signed by the foreigner outlining objectives in Colombia, schedule of activities, and declaring economic responsibility.

Admission

Certificate of admission indicating the duration of study, along with the receipt for tuition payment.
