Colombian Nationality by Adoption

The requirements for the process of application for citizenship by adoption are the following:

  • Memorial addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting Colombian nationality.
  • Original valid passport.
  • Current Alien Registration Card.
  • Photocopy of the current Resident Visa and other Colombian visas that the foreigner has had.
  • One (1) photo type current document of face, front, white background. Size 4 × 5 cm in jpg format.
  • Proof of profession or trade with the labor certificate of the company where you work, no longer than 6 months.
  • If the applicant is an independent professional, he / she must provide a copy of the form of the Unique Tax Registry (RUT).
  • In the case of being a partner or owner of a commercial establishment, you must attach the certificate of the Chamber of Commerce with an expedition of no more than six (6) months, stating the corporate purpose of said entity and its tax identification number ( NIT).
  • In case the applicant is financially dependent on another person, they must present a statement indicating that dependence, signed by the family member, spouse or permanent companion. Likewise, you must attach the documents that support the purchasing power of the person who is responsible for the applicant.
  • Marriage registry if you are married to a Colombian, or proof of the de facto marital union. If you have children of nationality Colombia, must present the respective civil registries of birth.
Nationality by adoption
  • Accredit basic knowledge of the Political Constitution of Colombia, homeland history, geography of Colombia and Castilian (excepting from this requirement those who prove to have obtained a bachelor’s degree, or who have completed university studies in Colombia, and people over 65 years of age. of Castilian is excepted for those people whose native language is Castilian).
  • Male persons, over 18 and under 50 who obtain nationality by adoption, will define their military situation in accordance with Colombian legislation, unless they prove with a suitable document that they have defined this situation in their country of origin. Said document must be consularized, apostilled, legalized and / or officially translated as appropriate. If the applicant has not defined the military situation in their country of origin, they must make a written commitment note stating that they will define their military situation in Colombia, in case they are granted citizenship.

NOTE: Please note that you must pay the nationality processing fee equivalent to COP $ 700,000, directly before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the instructions that will arrive to your email after you have started your process with us. Additionally, you must follow up on the request and be attentive to the communication channels previously provided to meet any requirement by government entities in a timely manner. Understanding the foregoing, that once we filed the application for citizenship with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it terminates our responsibility and functions within the process.
